Ayers Nominees P/L is the managing company for The Historic Recreation Hotel. Proprietor and Manager Laurie Ayers and his family have dedicated 30 years to developing and refurbishing this beautiful corner hotel, preserving an important piece of goldfields history. Recognised as a Category 2 Heritage Building, the Historic Recreation Hotel is located in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s tourism precinct at the corner or Lionel Street, 140 Burt Street, Boulder.
Historic significance
The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder has identified the Recreation Hotel as a Category 2 in the Municipal Inventory of Heritage Places, “representative example of Federation Free Classical Style”. The Historic Recreation Hotel is “aesthetically linked to other buildings within the Burt Street (Boulder) precinct and are both dominant and a landmark”. The Historic Recreation Hotel is “representative of the Australian Pub tradition as a two storey hotel with a verandah, (usually located on a prominent street corner in a suburb or Country Town)” and is “significant for its continuity of use”.
Boulder Earthquake 2010
Following a destructive Earthquake on 14th April 2010, the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder allocated $10m to re establish the Boulder streetscape to its original heritage architecture. Read more in the Kalgoorlie Miner article.
The Historic Recreation Hotel sustained significant damage from the earthquake. With the support of Historic Hotels Funding, the accommodation (upstairs) area of the hotel was completely renovated with 10 of the 14 rooms made available for short and long term stays.
